We are the only specialty and referral hospital with board certified specialists in Surgery, Internal Medicine and Emergency/ Critical Care under one roof in Southwest Florida. The role of the veterinary specialist within the community is to be an extension of the primary care veterinarian. Referral (“specialty”) veterinary medicine has become the standard of care for complex medical and surgical needs of dogs and cats in the United States. Unlike a primary care veterinarian, who practices general veterinary medicine, veterinary specialists specialize and focus on a particular medical discipline such as surgery, dermatology, internal medicine or critical care. Veterinary specialists can offer these services only after intensive post-veterinary degree (DVM) specialty-specific training; examination and certification by an AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association) recognized Specialty College. In most cases, veterinary specialists must complete an additional 4-5 years of training following completion of veterinary school.
Animal Specialty Hospital of Florida is the premiere hospital for all emergency cases and specialty referrals in Collier County and Southwest Florida. Specialists in surgery, emergency and critical care, internal medicine, and physical rehabilitation will see appointments by referral from primary care veterinarians. We are able to offer these advanced veterinary services with a higher level of personalized care at our new, modern, state-of-the art facility equipped with the most advanced diagnostic, therapeutic, surgical and critical care equipment.
